Havering Council scrap Meals on Wheels
Havering's cabinet of 9 councillers have decided to scrap the Meals on Wheels service that served the Borough's elderly and vulnerable.

The motion did not even go to the full council for a democratic vote.

Whilst the service is not a legal requirement for the council to undertake it has been scrapped for financial reasons - ie not making a profit.

There are certain things in life where money / profit should not be an overiding factor and care for our elderly is one.

Shame on you Havering Council.

Rant not over !!!

Nah - if you need care anywhere just chop yourself.

My Mum (RIP) had a care worker, fucking terrible. In the end my misses, me and my brother looked after her between us.

They have scrapped them here as well (Isle of Wight). It is interesting to note that Newham, Barking and Dagenham and Havering pay their care providers the lowest fees in the country. For home care Newham pay £9 per hour to the provider.

Considering the minimum wage plus the employers NI, holiday pay and pension contribution from April will cost the care provider £8.65 per hour.

Bottom line, if you need care, DON'T have it in the eastern reaches of London

Re: Havering Council scrap Meals on Wheels
It really winds me up - what they've done in Penge. The town council have outlawed 'meals within tiny matchboxes' which was the free roving victuals and nourishment service for rural outlying hedgehogs and otters.

Basically other tiny animals would fill swan vesta boxes with nuts, pulses and cabbage fronds, then wheel their tiny loads round to all the hedge dwelling animals in the far flung reaches of the village, to keep them warm in winter and to satiate their little hunger.
The meal parcels were either delivered by swans nudging their match boxes laden with fodder on tiny wheels or by very large spiders utilising their 8 legs to manage platters of snacks like insect waiters.

Since this practice has been banned hundreds of the village community have died of scurvy. Its fucking disgusting and ive written an aggressively worded missive to the daily ruralist. I urge you to follow suit or at the very least give alms to the starving squirrel population. Some of them are so starving theyve resorted to nibbling conkers which makes their pooh big and bristly

Could there be someone in Havering council that has a vested interest in a care home opening in the area?

Yet they're also proposing that Council Tax is increased for to give more money to care homes. Interesting.

Re: Havering Council scrap Meals on Wheels
This council is far worse than Newham and more costly regarding council tax.
Newham isn't the prettiest place to live but their services are greater than havering. Havering doesn't even provide wheelie bins for green recycling or refuse
